North London Shamrocks Club notes 08.09.21

Firstly, we hope you all had a great summers break and its great to be back with the 2021 season now in full motion. It has been a busy 6 weeks for both our Seniors and Second Team with Championship football up and running and both teams are in a good position to qualify for the Semi Finals.

Recent results

Senior Team

Our Seniors played their last league game in Senior Division 1 at the beginning of August against a very strong St Kiernans side who are strong contenders for the Senior Championship this year. This was an excellent game of football played from both sides but the Shamrocks were too strong on the day to win by 7 points with the final score – NLS 3-14 – St Kiernans 1-13.

We just missed out on qualifying for the league final but we finished the league strong winning  4 games, 1 draw and 2 games lost but overall a good campaign for the team.

This game set the Seniors up nicely for our first Championship game against recently crowned 2020 Senior Football Champions, Fulham Irish.

The game was played at high tensity with very little between the 2 teams at half time with the Shamrocks ahead by a single point – 1-5 to 1-4. In the 2nd half, early points exchanged from both teams kept them tied at 1-8 each but an excellent goal from the Shamrocks gave us a lead of  2-8 to 1-9 going into the 2nd water break. However in the final 15 minutes, Fulham Irish came back into the game scoring 4 points to our 2 to level the game at 2-10 (NLS) 1-13 (Fulham Irish).

Whilst disappointed not to walk away with all 2 points, it was still a great performance from the team and we have 2 big games ahead against Neasden and Round Towers to hopefully progress to the Semi Finals.

2nd Team

Our first game of the Reserve Championship was against Kingdom Kerry Gaels on Saturday 7th August. Sadly, the KKG team didn’t show and NLS were awarded the win and 2 points. Its not the way we want to win games but KKG did apologise to us and explained that a communication error was behind the team not turning up.

The 2nd game of the Championship was against St Kiernans who always have a strong Reserve and London born team. It was a very close game with some great battles all over the pitch but sadly we lost the game by just 2 points – NLS 2-13 St Kiernans 3-12. Overall, a great performance from the team and we now have a big game coming up against the Joes which is a must win game to have a chance to qualify for the Semi Finals.

Forthcoming games

Forget about the All Ireland Final, the Shamrocks have 2 huge games this weekend.

  • Our Seniors play their 2nd game of the Championship against Neasden Gaels at 2.30 on Sunday 12th September in McGovern Park, Ruislip.

  • Our 2nd Team are up against the Joes in round 3 of the Championship. This is a home game and thrown-in will be 1 p.m at Tottenhall Park.

Please feel free to come along and support the teams – your support is always welcomed.

Good luck to all our players and Management for these games.

Shamrock events

We recently held the All Ireland Ticket draw on Saturday 21st August in the Dog and Duck Pub. Congratulations to our very own Committee Member, Noel Sainsbury who was the lucky winner of the golden ticket (he also pulled the ticket out – just a coincidence!!!!). Fair play to Noel for giving the ticket to our very own Mayo legend, Vinny Murphy.

If you are interested in joining the North London Shamrocks Lotto, please get in touch today or go onto the following link https://clubforce.com/clubs/gaa-north-london-shamrocks-london/ The current lotto is at £6,900 and the next draw will be on the 13/09/21 – as they do say, you’ve got to be in it to win it!!!

Watch this space for upcoming Shamrock events…… we will have some exciting news to announce shortly.

Thank you

On behalf of the Management and Committee, we would like to thank everyone who attended the recent North London Shamrocks family day held at the Old Ignatian Sports Ground. The turn out for this was excellent and the beer was free flowing, plenty of dancing and even a bit of singing from a few individuals who we cannot name (for obvious reasons!!!) Once again, a big thank you to Archer Financial Services Ltd for kindly sponsoring this event.

We even had a special appearance from Derry Girls Erin Quinn who by all accounts had a great evening.

Pictures and videos to follow…… 😊

Condolences

The Shamrocks would like to offer their condolences to a number of deceased London GAA remembers who have sadly passed away over the last 2 months. Some big names in the London scene who dedicated many years to better the GAA not just in London but also in the UK. They will all be sadly missed.

John O’Neill (London GAA vice chairpersons)

Brendan Moyles (St Kiernans)

Our sincere sympathies to all their families, friends and wider community.

We are back training every Wednesday from 7 p.m - get in contact for further info or if you are interested in joining the Shamrocks. New players are always welcome.

The North London Shamrocks are a Senior Gaelic Football Team who play in the London Senior Championship and Football League Division 1.

After a successful campaign in 2014, in which we claimed the London Intermediate Championship, Shiels Cup, Murphy cup and finishing runners up in the All Britain Championship. The Shamrocks have built upon a solid foundation of quality football and great community spirit.

We also compete in the Reserve League and Championship. New players of all ability are always welcome to join this progressive and ambitious club. We will always try to provide assistance to new players or members where possible.

As a club, we run regular social events throughout the year such as our ever-popular Dinner Dance, Race Nights and a recent addition to the social calendar ‘Take Me out’ night.

We have our own pitch with changing rooms and shower facilities that are of the highest standard available to any club in London.

During the summer we train at our home ground, 15 minutes from Wood Green tube station.
